DATUC supports Midlands TUC Women's Chainmakers Festival

The Women's Chainmakers Festival is an annual event in Cradley Heath, celebrating a strike by the women chainmakers there. It will be held on 11th July 2015 from 11 am - 6 pm.

The Chainmakers festival will be held on Cradley Heath High Street - the iconic heart of the famous struggle where the Chainmakers worked and lived - and fought their successful ten week dispute to secure a minimum wage for their sector.

A family friendly street festival involving market stalls, fun fair rides, speeches, street theatre, music and debate, the 2015 festival promises to be a hugely successful and enjoyable day, and one which Derby Area Trades Union Council is proud to support.

DATUC supports Mid's TUC Women's Chainmakers Festival with a £100 donation. Richard and Moz President and Secretary of DATUC present cheque to Lee Barron Regional Secretary and Joe Regional Chair.

People's Assembly National Demonstration on 20th June

The Derby Trades Council has been supporting many activities of the People's Assembly, a national anti-austerity movement. In the wake of the Conservative Party's election victory there have been over 50,000 people signing up online for their national demonstration in London on June 20th, and that number is only going to grow!

The Trades Council has arranged for a coach to take people to the demonstration. It will leave Derby Bus Station from bays 26-28 at 8 am on June 20th. Tickets will be free for people not on a wage, and a £5 donation will be asked for people who are waged. This will be a huge demonstration and seats are likely to go quickly.
